Post-Exam Activity: Sports Education Programme (SEP) 2016

As part of our school's post-examination activities, the PE Department organised a one-day SEP for the Secondary 2 and 3 students. They were given four sports to choose from, namely, bowling, dragon boating, golf and indoor shooting (air rifle). Thanks to the great weather, the students had an enjoyable day experiencing new things and learning about a sport they do not get the chance to do in school.

Bowling @ Mt Faber Safra Superbowl
The programme started off with an essential warm up of their bowling hands, led by the friendly and experienced instructors.
Students learnt about the different postures to have when bowling so as to improve on their accuracy and speed of the ball.
At the end of the day, students had a friendly competition among themselves, to apply what they have learnt from the instructors.

Through the various SEPs that we have exposed our students to, sewe hope that they will learn to appreciate that sport is fun and easy to do. More importantly, arouse students' interest in continual sports participation.

Contributions by National Kidney Foundation Singapore - Kidney Education Bus
The Kidney Education Bus parked at our school on the Friday before Health & Fitness Week. It garnered much attention and many students were eager to find out what was inside!

On board the bus, students got to try out kidney health related games. The station seen in the photo is for students to stand in front of the TV and position themselves according to the kidneys on the screen. It is important that we know where our kidneys are and how many of them we have!

Skip Your Heart Out & Jump Your Heart Out Competitions
Students took part enthusiastically in both the skipping and jumping jack competitions. Many sacrificed their recess timing to participate in it. There were even students who came down daily to challenge the record their set yesterday. From the four days of competition from Monday to Thursday, we have identified the winners of each competition and will be giving out the attractive prizes soon...

Health & Fitness Week 2016

HAPPY HEALTH & FITNESS WEEK HENDERSON!

This week, we celebrate our first Health & Fitness Week as a school and we have many exciting things happening!

1) At the Foyer and Canteen, you will find exhibitions by Singapore Heart Foundation, Central Narcotics Board, our School Health Advisor and the PE Department.

2) At the Parade Square, you will spot a huge bus parked at one corner. It is actually the Kidney Education Bus by National Kidney Foundation. Students are to grab a copy of the quiz before boarding the bus, complete it and submit all completed quizzes to their respective Sports Leaders. The PE Department will then collate all submitted copies and this will be counted towards the Class Healthfulness Award that will be given out at the end of the year.

3) At the PE Office, two competitions will be happening during recess timings from 0910 - 1055. The competitions have been designed for a person of any physical fitness ability as we want to encourage all to participate in it. The challenge is to do as many skips, using a skipping rope, as you can and/or as many 4-counts jumping jack as you can in 30 seconds. This competition is open to all staff and students. Prizes are VERY attractive and so WE WANT YOUR PARTICIPATION!

We hope that you will have an enjoyable week ahead as you learn more about how to stay healthy and keep fit!
