Outdoor Education @ Henderson - Field Cooking Lesson #1

Since 2015, the PE Department have been integrating outdoor education (OE) into its PE lessons. First, the Secondary 1 students underwent basic orienteering and pacing lessons - where they navigated the school compound to complete various checkpoints and estimate distances using their pace distances.

This year, field cooking and tent pitching were done during OE lessons. This is part of continual efforts to deepen the knowledge of our students in OE.

Another teacher providing toothpaste for students to apply on the base of the mess tin. This is to make it easier for the washing up later.

In the first lesson of field cooking, students were taught about fire safety & management. They learnt how to handle cooking equipment, boil water and make a cup of Milo.

Through the first lesson, students gained confidence in handling fire in the outdoors and are more aware of the safety concerns in field cooking. With these skills, they are ready to move to the next challenge in field cooking which is to cook beehoon soup.
